AFTERMATH
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Aftermath is an adult Live action game that has been running since 2008. We have 4-6 events a year most of which recently having been held at Fort Amherst, Chatham, Kent.
We say adult as we have opted to go down that route as opposed to a family style larp event such as LT where certain events are taboo. That is not to say that we endorse any vile act and find such in the REAL world abhorrant - BUT in the game certain things may be done of said that are accepted as part of the harsh life within the game world.
In brief the world has suffered a catastrophic Ritual War - things are not normal. Food is hard to come by, currency is loosing worth might is right and the weak cower behind the walls of their holds hoping that the cruel and insane will be kept from their door - kept at bay by SOMEONE.
SOMEONE who may well be you. All players will be living within a grim reality. The WILDS - a raging unforgiving nature gone mad realm surrounds the safe havens that you will come from. We ask your character concept to fit within the realities touched on here and within the rulebook.
The game is a hybrid of linear and mini-festival. You are free to roam the site environs as described by the refs at the start of the Event on Friday Night. WE want to portray a living breathing world with what we have. It’s a young system with no large bank account but we will try to enact an ambience of reality.
Prior to TIME IN we will
· BOOK YOU IN AND TAKE PAYMENT FOR THE EVENT IF NOT ALREADY DONE SO.
· ASK YOU WITH THE HELP OF STAFF IF REQUIRED GENERATE YOUR CHARACTER USING THE VARIOUS RULEBOOKS THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE.
· WE ASK THAT YOU GET INTO KIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER DOING THIS AS IT GIVES US A GAUGE OF HOW MANY FOLK ARE READY TO GO.
· WEAPONS CHECK AND BOW COMPETENCY TEST.
Once all this is done we will begin the evening with an introduction and talk iro all the obvious such as safety etc. We will advise you where in the world you will be starting from - Upon TIME IN we would ask you to keep your hand in the air UNTIL you are in a position where you would then EXIST.
We ask new folk to come up with reasons as to why they would be in the region. No need to write volumes of background as we will be unable to take all this in on Friday night whilst trying to book 30-60 people in. However we want you to have in depth history at least memorised in your head and targets and goals reasons for being out near the wilds late at night (9-10pm)
Look and Feel – Aftermath is set after a great war that threw back progression 100 years. At the time of the war the world had reached a fantastical version of late medieval times early tudor with clocks and gunpowder (cannons not muskets) and glass. The science of magic was also highly developed. This all was thrown into chaos by the war. Vestiges of these times exist in dress and artifacts but in essence a dark age has come.
FAQS
How do I earn Experience Points? There are 65 xp up for grabs - You are automatically given a basic number of "XP" for each event based on your current skill level and the length of the event. Unlike other similar games, we do not believe that experience should only be given out for beating up monsters. We think that the bard in the tavern contributes just as much (if not more) to the game than the "stick jocks" and therefore we reward all players equally.
Is there an age limit? Yes; you must be at least 16 to play
What happens on a weekend event? The game will begin Friday night. From that point on until the game ends on Sunday afternoon. There is no stopping until refs call time out; not for dinner, not for sleeping, not for anything short of an emergency. Play will be going on around you at all times, and sometimes something as simple as traveling from your cabin to the tavern can be a matter of life and (game) death. A typical weekend event will have you in the thick of things in no time!
How safe is the game? It is Larp with head (not face) as a valid location. We ask all folk to be careful and pull your blows – watch your footing etc SAFETY FIRST!
How far must a weapon travel to count as a blow? At aftermath we want big weapon blows, the tip of the weapon must at least come from behind your back. This will be demonstrated by a member of staff before time in.
How do we replay healing? In the aftermath rules healing hurts and characters are expected to roleplay this. If you are seen by a ref not roleplaying this then the healing will not work and the power points for casting it will be wasted.
If i take damage while casting does the spell still work? No, if while casting you take damage then the spell does not work and the power is wasted.
