Dverg Background Information
The Dverg have changed much from what they once were. Once known for their great craft and building skills, now they are little more than savages, most of their knowledge and skills crushed beneath the boots of the Lios and D?rough. Their great cities were some of the first and hardest to be hit. Most now live in tribal settlements deep within the wilds. They are nomadic, never being far from food sources in the wilds. They dislike most, even those of their own race if they are not from their tribe. The fey they dislike with a passion. The Dverg are in general shorter than humans but thick set, normally dressed in furs with whatever equipment they have found or looted. Their hair and beard are unkempt and they have a feral look in their eyes. They are little more than animals, but every now and again one comes along who is more like the Dverg of old these quickly rise within the tribe. Prior to the war Dverg would belong to great extended families that fell beneath a Clan banner. For example the Ironstone Clan had within it in the Iron beards, Stone hammers, Stone smelt and Iron heart families. Dverg are now tribal as opposed to clannish – a slim difference, but a difference all the same. Nowadays the tribe names are more savage, Crow eye, Bear fang, Wolf pelt, Vulture talon etc. all with animalistic spirit totems that it is rumoured can ritually possess its members.
Roleplaying Dverg
The Dverg are very tribal and are classed as barbarian hunter gatherers in game terms. They have a brutal outlook to life and morbid sense of humour. They venerate their tribal totems and initially dislike all not of their tribe.
Dverg Costume Requirements
They are feral looking dressed in furs and leathers covered in black tattoos, prone to grunting more than talking. Their dress and equipment is normally in a poor state and is whatever they have managed to find or steal.

Translated inscription from the tomb of Eka’at Filias Eversun High Historaite 15th Brigade Support
The Dverg are the most tragic of races, but their tragedy is the very foundation of their iron will.
The Dverg gods you see once lived among them. Noble and strong, talented in crafting and ritual. The Dvergish pantheon led the clans in the early days and used their powers to create the vast holds the Dverg once inhabited.
However tragedy struck during the great War. The clans split, each attempting to gain supremacy of the others. During this turmoil, the Darkiron Clan sought power by turning to the Necrophym. Using their newly gifted nightborn sorcery, the Darkiron tried to destroy the gods of the opposing clans and or turn them to the necrophym fiends. They created what became known as the Wild.
Raw energy coursed through all the Holds bringing about a terrible transformation in their gods. All but the most primitive intelligence left them, as they became twisted and animalistic and the d’verg followed suit.
For a while they fought their own people - until the Dverg pushed them back, deep into the pits of the Holds. Dvergish Shamen traced the origin of the Wilding to the Darkiron and a terrible war of retribution followed.
Many of the Darkiron were brutally killed, but many more escaped into the Jute Wastelands, hiding until the Great Purge when they joined the Augmentors on the Great harvest, becoming one at last with their great crime.
Following the Wilding, Dvergish society was crushed and dispirited. Since the dawn of creation they had lived as one with their founders and now they lived in fear of them.
The more warlike races seized their opportunity and attacked, pressing many of the Dverg from their birth-grounds and deep into the Holds. It was a time when the D’rough Duke Venegil betrayed the Sternanvil, killing their leaders and seizing control of their home.
For months, the Dverg were fighting defensive wars against the other races and their own bestial gods spirits and sendings. For a while, it looked like they were doomed to extinction. Then came The Life-Smith. The Life-Smith was a veteran of many wars and had fought against the enemies of the dverg centuries before.
He ventured below the Holds and confronted the spirits of the fallen gods of his clan. He managed somehow to tame the raging beasts, returning to the surface with them by his side just as D’rough forces were launching what would have been a decisive attack. Blood covering his body, an eye missing, he managed to find the faintest glimmers of memory in the ferocious creatures and reminded them of their connection to the Dverg. The spirits of these beastial gods , decimated the d’rough.
In the months following, The Life-Smith became the first of the Soul-Keepers, Dvergish Shamen trained to watch over their savage gods.
Now, all the surviving clans have Soul-Keepers. Five tribes have risen to prominence, but many others still exist within their Holds. The Broken-Tusks are by far the most powerful and their island home has never been successfully invades. The Wolfeye tribe has their arch rivals will do well to remember this, even though they, have claimed the most outstanding military victories against the Augmentors' forces - although in recent years their fortunes have taken a down turn, and grown far more defensive. The Bullbloods have made a temporary truce with the d’rough to fight their common foe - The church. The Bearclaw have, made an uneasy pact with the Church to concentrate their struggle against the Blood Queen. While the Vulture tribe still swear allegiance to the Dvergish Chiefs, they are also more willing to give their service to anyone with enough gold to buy it. The tribes all have different ways and different codes .

You remember the elders tell tales of the old ways. When D'verg were reknown for being the greatest craftsmen highly skilled smiths. Empowering items with D'vergish runes and glyphs.
All D'verg strongholds were centres of learning and craft. Large avenues of carved stone...aqueducts bringing fresh water from the mountains...smithies ringing out with the sounds of cheerful labour as wonderous runed weapons, armour, jewels and automata were created with perfect care and attention Deepdale was once the jewel in the crown of D'verg strongholds. The D'verg were always divide into clans even during this time before the war. However rather than infighting for power and territory difference of opinions was settled with a battle of crafts. Whomever crafted the more beautiful, whatever it may be was proclaimed the winner and thier view was accepted. Of course sometimes disgruntled losers would kick up a fuss. Sometimes even demand a combat trail which both men (because no one wanted to seem weak) would pick a champion from thier respective clan and don them with the finest armours and battles axes, maces, spears and glaves. This was a specticul that all would come to watch. Held in the Grand Arena in the center of the stronghold. The strong hold itself was surrounded by walls of steel and stone. Great Hollow Gargoyles stood upon within the walls taller that any Jotun or Ursine, so tall that the heads of this stone monsters stood 3ft higher than the already 15ft walls. D,vergish clan called The Iron Sentinals maned the walls. It was seen as a great honour for them though richer clans looked down on them as lowly patrolmen.
